"Integrated Design" is Manasc Isaac's process of design in which the Architectural and Engineering disciplines, as well as the clients and builders, are integrated into the design process to allow synergistic benefits to be realized. The goal is to achieve high performance and multiple benefits at a lower cost than the total for all the components combined. This process integrates sustainable design goals and objectives and design criteria for building form, function, performance, and cost, improving environmental performance while reducing LEEDTM "point-chasing".

A key to successful integrated building design is the participation of people from different specialties of design: architectural, mechanical engineering, lighting and electrical engineering, cost consulting, interior design, and landscape architecture. By working together with the client team and the contractors and trades, at key points during the design process, the participants can often identify attractive solutions with conventional building costs.

In an integrated design approach, the mechanical or energy engineer calculates energy use and cost very early in the design, informing designers of the energy-use implications of building orientation, configuration, fenestration, mechanical systems, and lighting options. Significant savings can be identified right at the start of the design process.

Integrated building design strategies are considered for all aspects of sustainable design: improving energy efficiency, planning a sustainable site, safeguarding water, creating healthy indoor environments, and using environmentally preferable materials.
