| New Government of Canada Building opens in Yellowknife, NWT |
On October 14, 2005, the new Government of Canada Building -- the Greenstone Building -- opened in Yellowknife, NWT. The four-storey, 7,200 m2 building will house 200 public service employees from approximately 15 departments and agencies.
Built according to the latest environmental and energy-efficient standards, the Greenstone Building is the first North of 60 building to seek Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification. The Greenstone Building was completed on budget at a cost of $28 million.

Alberta is leading the rest of the country in the number of projects that have gained Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) ratings.
As of May 2005, 16 projects across Canada have been certified, seven of them in Alberta. Six projects took place in British Columbia, and Ontario, Manitoba and Quebec each had one.
