Edmonton is located where the prairie and boreal forest meet; this provides an opportunity to highlight our landscape in relation to the BIG sky. A glimpse of the city in the distance as one approaches creates moments of anticipation and excitement. Similarly, views of the forests, farms, and the sky as one exits spark the anticipation of a journey.
These existential experiences are points of departure for urban design. They can inspire innovative design guidelines that distinguish Edmonton from cities anywhere else in North America. Manasc Isaac Architects believes that the Edmonton West End Corridor Urban Design Study has the potential to be a benchmark for improving one's experience, both entering and exiting the City of Edmonton.
Our firm is committed to making the West End Entrance Corridor an engaging, animated gateway to Edmonton, as well as a ceremonial point of departure from Edmonton. The Urban Design Study has identified important considerations that impact the city as a whole. Questions of urban sprawl and its containment, infrastructure use, required growth, and optimal land use have been addressed through rigorous research, consultation, and design.
